Minecraft – and in particular cultural heritage games created in Minecraft, or perhaps Minecraft EDU – would be an interesting game environment to consider in the context of your paper. Its creative, open ended nature potentially allows players to shape and alter the environment and thus construct both cultural and social meaning to a greater degree than some other games. Also, in Minecraft realism is not really a big concern and so the symbolic or representational aspects are more overt. Does this mean the process of interpretation is more conscious for the player, which in turn helps create a more meaningful learning experience?
