A stable directory of great VR experiences

I was asked on ABC radio today if there is an online directory of all the great VR projects (travel, tourism etc). Either that or a way for searching for VR projects by specific formats, directly.

I don’t know of any but there should be-would make a great archival research project as well (reason: challenging!). Should I talk to Google?

Bladerunner and counterculture champions

David Pogue in the NY Times on the “Android Army” writes about criticism of his review of Nexus:

The most plausible theory, though, is that Google’s Android phone software is a more open and hackable operating system than the proprietary software on the iPhone, BlackBerry or Palm. Therefore, Android appeals to precisely the sort of frustrated, anti-establishment people who have no trouble writing abusive notes. It brings them out of the woodwork, gives them a new counterculture champion.

My new phrase for today. Ironically, I noticed even P K Dick’s family is suing google over the Android and Nexus terms!

the new google phone?

according to reports, scratch that, gossip, google will release their own phone start of 2010. And from what I have read between the lines, it will be a vast improvement over current Android phones.

A vast improvement for me would be:

-native and tested SDK for 2D and 3D interactive content (runs Unity 3D and Blender and Flash)

-a keyboard peripheral (portable, possible can fold), that can be attached for serious typing

-accelerometer and GPS (even if add-on or upgrade)

-microphone support

-a good camera or a replaceable / updateable camera (can any phone do this-why not?)

-decent battery settings for maximum battery life

-can hook up directly to external monitor and run that monitor at full display settings (the impossible dream).
