I have been writing for awhile on how role playing games can be adapted to teach history and heritage but there are some issues that keep getting in the way:
-if one has other people in the environment it makes it more lively but potentially less historical
-people do not typically inhabit the space
-these RPS and Massive Multiplayer RPGsĀ don’t usually feature extensive editors.
Some possible alternatives are:
- the witcher editor (PC) also see the modding section
- oblivion reborn (a multiplayer mod-requires Shivering Isles)
- perhaps Sims 3 or even Sims 3 placed inside ALICE 3D (see version 3 beta for download but is it still being developed?) or panda 3D?
- left 4 dead, beta (hammer?) editor and can import Sketchup 3D assets..
I have not tested the above yet though!
Another thought would be if some game company gave assets to an outdated or defunct RPG game to organizations behind open source technology like Panda 3D, Blender3D, or cobalt.
